| 544911 | 2007-04-28 03:42:00 | Hello, I am trying to set up a broadband connection on a computer running Windows XP. It has an Ethernet port on the back, but when we plug in the ADSL modem (which works fine on other computers) there is no Network icon in Network Connections window. There is only one dialup connection icon from an old dialup account used on that computer in the past. Any ideas where to start to get this going? Do I have to download some drivers and copy them onto that computer? Thanks for any help, -John. |

| 544916 | 2007-04-28 04:18:00 | Just be aware that you don't have to run the Network-setup Wizard ... in fact, many people will tell you not to! If there's no network icon in the Network Connections, then Windows doesn't think you have an ethernet socket. Best way to check: look in the Device Manager to see if there's a "Network Adapters" entry. If not, there's your problem! :) |

| 544917 | 2007-04-28 04:26:00 | Ok, so I just tried to run the Network setup wizard but when I got to the end and clicked finish nothing appeared still . So, I went to device manager and finally found the Network Adapator (it was hidden for some reason) . It is and "ASUSTek/Broadcom 440x10/100 Integrated controller-packet scheduler miniport" . It is enabled but still didnt work . I tried running the wizard from within Internet Explorer as well as the wizard in the Network Connections window . The orange and green light come on the network card socket when I plug in the network cable into the back of the computer but nothing registers on screen still . Should I download some new driver for it and reinstall it? Thanks for all the help, -John . |

| 544919 | 2007-04-28 04:46:00 | I have used the DSL modem with two laptops without installing any software so I thought it would be the same thing for the desktop (all are running XP). I am pretty sure there was no software that came with it anyway. |

Since I can't get an icon to appear in the Network Connections window, is it possible to access the LAN settings still? How do I do that? All 4 lights appear on the ADSL modem as usual which are Power, WAN, PPP, and LAN. |
