| 546490 | 2007-05-03 01:20:00 | My new video card (Leadtek 7950GT)has a six pin power connector but the power supply does not have a six pin socket available. The card comes with a "power split" cable which has a six pin plug on one end to go into the card and two four pin plugs on the other end which the book says to "use" but doesn't say how. Do both the four pin plugs need to be plugged in or only one? Ta in advance. | slofox (5767) | ||

If so, then it's a genuine splitter - you plug in a 4 pin plug into the female socket, and the 6 pin into the video card. The other 4 pin plug is a spare (basically you haven't lost the 4 pin plug you plugged into your splitter - you can still use it on another device). Mike. |

| 546492 | 2007-05-03 01:29:00 | Yes, you NEED that extra power for it to run properly and stabily, the 4 pin connector you are talking about is the standard molex connector, what you will find is that the splitter has these because it needs power from 2 12V rails from the PSU so plug BOTH of them into free molex connectors from different 'lines' from the PSU EDIT: Mike, this was my first thought, but then I looked at the splitter that came with my 7800GTX and it has both male connectors feeding into different sockets on the six pin connector |

The earth wires go to a common pin but the phases and neutrals do not - they go to one side each..... |

| 546497 | 2007-05-03 02:50:00 | Make sure you have enough power on the 12v rail to power that card, otherwise you could damage the card, cause system instability and even toast the motherboard. I have just had to buy a new PSU as my TT460 wasnt enough for the X1950pro, which needs 30a (thats 360w) on the 12v rail!!! I dont however believe you card is that hungry, but best to check your PSU is up to the task! |
