546486 2007-05-03 01:12:00 My friend has a hard drive loaded with windows xp. If he bought his hard drive around to my place and we plugged it into my PC as the master hard drive and take my hard drive out completely, will his operating system load normally on my pc?

The cpu, video card, sound card are different to his pc.

I am thinking it will work but we'll just have to install new drivers aye?

546487 2007-05-03 01:23:00 It can work, but it will not be very good, possibily can lead to unstable OS a fresh install on different hardware is ALWAYS best :2cents:

It is NOT recommended to do what you are wanting

546488 2007-05-03 01:40:00 it might run if you are verylucky.......more likely it'll bluescreen before you get anywhwere close to windows.........then you'll need to run a repair install to set it up so it'll actually boot to windows and then you'll need to install YOUR mobo drivers and vid drivers etc.......... drcspy (146)
546489 2007-05-03 03:17:00 Take the whole computer. It's a lot easier. Windows doesn't take long to reinstall the monitor, mouse and keyboard. pcuser42 (130)
