There are probably a number of other good free alternatives as well. Kerio Firewall is also good. Not sure if it is Vista ready yet. There are a number of other good free firewalls. | winmacguy (3367) | ||
| 546248 | 2007-05-02 05:37:00 | Depends if u want to buy it, or u want a free one. Avast Pro & Home (http://www.avast.com) should work with Vista. Spybot and Adaware arent AV programs. They deal with spyware. |

| 546250 | 2007-05-02 06:07:00 | NOD32 definitely works with Vista (I am using it) and is the best :thumbs: | CYaBro (73) | ||
| 546251 | 2007-05-02 06:11:00 | AVG Free is the best :) | stu161204 (123) | ||
| 546252 | 2007-05-02 06:53:00 | I use Avast on WinXP Pro 64. Free. I would think that antivirus application will run on Vista. Not about to buy a version of Vista to find out at the moment. |

The general consensus however is that Norton/Symentec/McAfee are all out to lunch and eat your RAM..which, as I understand it is something you do NOT want to consume...as Vista needs all it can get to run at all. |

| 546255 | 2007-05-02 07:45:00 | I install Avast free on the Vista 32 machines I assemble for friends. It does not hang a commercial on every outgoing Email like another product does. Avast updates automatically on a nearly daily basis. It sounds a siren when it detects a nasty and does not kill the P C when it goes into kill the virus mode. I have no doubt someone will rubbish this posting, the temptation seems irresistable for some persons. |
