546241 2007-05-02 04:10:00 Hi guys,

We have a requirement at work for a laptop based Wifi card that can also take an external wifi antenna input....I can't seem to find one at a local supplier...do any of you have Wifi cards that have this optional antenna input, and if so what brand are they and where did they come from?

TIA
Macca
PS - this is'nt for wardriving! Its actually for work in a quarry:)

546242 2007-05-02 04:25:00 Yup, I would say you'll be lucky to find one with an aerial.

Theyre most probably not needed on laptops. Otherwise it'd just get in the way.

546243 2007-05-02 04:32:00 Gidday Speedy, I'm not actually after a card with a physical antenna already attached, but more like this one:

www.expansys.co.nz

It has a connector on the card that a optional antenna (in our case a Cisco yagi) can be connected to.... they seem to be more common overseas.... the one above is the only one I can find in NZ (well its really in Australia:( )

I have seen some drastic mods to add this feature however on the net...I may have to experiment with my old Cisco Aironet adaptor!!

All advice and thoughts appreciated....

546244 2007-05-02 04:43:00 Have a look on TradeMe theres normal a couple provided there, but they're not cheap. Often in the $100-$200 range. Theres a New Zealand Wifi shop online and they sell them, but i cant remember its name a quick Google should bring up something. Pete O'Neil (6584)
