546138 2007-05-02 00:41:00 Grand daughter brought a HP lappy with Vista and it connected to the net in the store but since she has got it home (a long way from the supplier store) she can not connect to her broardband ISP.A popup says connection refused by this computer or something to that effect.I guess it is to do with firewalls or something but what should she do to get connected. kjaada (253)
546139 2007-05-02 02:26:00 you have to go to internet options and fiddle around in the network connections area to get it to work once you have done that you are away. Hitech (9024)
546140 2007-05-02 03:57:00 To be fair, this is unlikely to be fixed by us via a relay through you. We ask a question - you say, "I don't know". We say, "Try setting ...etc", and you say, "I will tell her". See the problem? linw (53)
546141 2007-05-02 04:24:00 Not a problem.I am a true blue linux man and am aware of the cantankerous side of Mr Gates's system.I will use a linux live CD to fix it next time I am over at my granddaughters but I had hoped it was just a matter of "turn this on and that off" but I should have known better.
I find it hard to understand tho how it could connect in the shop but not on her home broadband.I have travelled all over the world with our laptop and it is just a matter of finding a BB connection and we are away.No settings to alter or anything like that.

546142 2007-05-02 04:31:00 What's her modem? USB modems would require a driver software to run properly. If it's an ethernet modem, usually all you need to do is access the modem's number using a browser and setup your connection.

Or, under Vista's 'Welcome Center' there will be an option that says 'Connect to the internet'.

Hope that helps.

546143 2007-05-02 04:32:00 Do a search in Google in Yahoo. For the exact error you're getting. Speedy Gonzales (78)
546144 2007-05-02 04:45:00 Was the connection via WiFi in the shop? If so you will need to reconfigure it to the place it now resides (if in fact there is WiFi there to start with). If it is via network then it should be a simple matter of plugging into your existing modem/router. Big John (551)

The modem is connected and runs another puter no problem. As I said above we go in to a hotel or kiosk anywhere and plug our lappy in and we are away and my lappy works no problem on their modem, but then it is Linux and not Vista.
