546081 2007-05-01 21:09:00 If Windows can run on a Mac, why can't the Mac OS be run on a PC considering that - I believe - Macs now have an Intel cpu? Do Macs have a mb or graphics card designed only for Macs, or what? Strommer (42)

That involves emulating a PPC chip. slow as a snail
The bios replacement that the intel macs use. was developed by intel and ms for vista(longhorn). MS decided it would cut out to many hardware options and therefore destroying the upgrade sales

546085 2007-05-02 00:03:00 It is possible to run MacOS on a PC and not have to emulate a PPC chip. Its been a long time since ive looked at it but it is doable. Apple also implement so chip in the motherboard the OSX installer looks for, all of this can be overcome. Pete O'Neil (6584)

So Apple hardware does not have a basic input/output system. (BIOS)
Can you now explain how the operating system communicates with the hardware?

Any operating system has to supply input and output along with device drivers and things like monitors, screens, printers, modems, scanners, cameras, disks drives, usb flash and I could go on.

Then have you ever added RAM to a MAC?

yes I have added ram to a mac.
No I cannot explain how. As far as i am aware it is what replaced the bios wehther that be a bios by another name I don't know

546089 2007-05-02 01:25:00 It's called EFI and before that on the PPC it was open firmware.
just had a bit of read about it on wiki, it seems windows servers use the same, so it's not new.
And for Sweep, oh deer

546090 2007-05-02 01:41:00 People have had OS X running on beige boxes since back when OS X for Intel was beta. It's all at osx86project (wiki.osx86project.org). I'm about to play around with it this weekend after finally getting my hands on the appropriate *cough-jas* OS X image.

The legitimacy of using OS X on non-apple hardware I'm sure is questionable.
