545821 2007-05-04 06:53:00 Will you be able to pick up the other free channels with the freeview approved gear, I'm not meaning your normal terrestrial channels, what i mean is the other free channels that are broadcast on the Optus D1 satellite

See here for the ones i mean (www.freeviewshop.co.nz)

The other slightly less daft question is if i were to buy one of those elcheapo trademe set top box kits or other non approved would the automatic channel guide thingi work

1st daft question: I got one of the e-cheepos off TM. I have only been able to tune in the freeview channels, but haven't really tried for the others, just scanned and got the freeview ones so far.

2nd daft question:

I get the EPG (electronic program guide) on my el-cheeepoo box. Seems not quite all the features of the 'proper' boxes... like only get the day's programmes, not the whole week.

I got a Chinese (?) Shinestar one... didn't seem much point forking out for the 'approved' box etc right now and $100 to chuck out the rabbit's ears didn't seem like a bad deal. Don't want Sky as I've had it before and it's a waste of money for the amount I watched it.

Have Sky dish, have plug hole, have box and TV- and it's all good.

I just looked at the link for the channels above and all the others apart from TV1, TV2, TV3, C4 etc are on other satelites... so unless you've got a motorised dish or point it at another sat etc I think you're not gonna get them.

545824 2007-05-04 12:52:00 You can use a twin or tripple LNBF to pick off other sats without moving anything. I've seen a 76cm dish with 5 lnbfs on it! apsattv (7406)
