546430 2007-05-06 09:31:00 If you had a ram problem you would get it in more than just HL2. Yes, that is true and the standard test has passed a couple of times, so I would think that it is a software issue, have you tried reinstalling Windows? it might sound a little extream, but it is surprising how many issues can be solved by this... 546431 2007-05-06 09:50:00 My computer also feels very sluggish a the best of times, it feels like eternity before everything is ready to go after start-up.
Re-installing Windows does sound dramatic, especially since neither my desktop or my notebook came with a Windows CD (I've got XP Media Centre on both, not keen on it either) although I did create restore discs, so I'll assume that running these is the same as re-installation.

546432 2007-05-06 09:57:00 Well considering we know very little about your sys specs...

Have you ran the normal spyware, adware, virus scans etc, defragged the HDD disk clean up etc etc etc?

546433 2007-05-06 10:47:00 I've got a HP Pavilion m7360a, basically it's a Pentium 4 3.06GHz with 1GB ram (I had 512MB added) and GeForce 7300LE. Not the flashest, as I have discovered with research AFTER purchase (there's a lesson for me).

I'm using Norton Internet Security 2006 for all my security and I understand that it's a resource hog. I've tried using the combo of AdAware, Spybot, ZoneAlarm and AVG but HL2 has difficulty with it (Sorry about going on and on about HL2). I'm open to suggestions of alternatives on that matter, I know that it is a debated issue.

A full restore is proberbly not a bad idea really, as painful as it sounds.

546434 2007-05-06 11:00:00 What are the issues with them and HL2? they will be better than Nortons.

A full restore will most likely solve the issues provided that it is a software issue, if you do the restore, ONLY install the nesecary programs (AV/ firewall etc) and HL2 and see if it crashes then

546435 2007-05-06 22:12:00 It's having trouble with Zone Alarm. I can run a system check from the Steam support site and the result says that not all instances of HL2 and Steam have permission to access the net, although I've set anything related to have access. av4tarnz (5829)
