546091 2007-05-02 02:56:00 EFI is a replacement for the BIOS, it was developed my Intel but so far adoption has been pretty slow. The OS X installer requires a EFI to install and doesn't support a BIOS, thus the osxproject has develop ways of getting around this. Pete O'Neil (6584)
546092 2007-05-02 03:54:00 Apparently Microsoft turned down the oportunity to run Vista using EFI in favour of remaining on/with BIOS which has become somewhat outdated. winmacguy (3367)
546093 2007-05-02 08:25:00 People have had OS X running on beige boxes since back when OS X for Intel was beta . It's all at osx86project ( . osx86project . org/wiki/index . php/Main_Page" target="_blank">wiki . osx86project . org) .

WIBD . Thanks for that .

Do I need Apple hardware to run Mac OS X? Not anymore . Projects such as OSx86 have succeeded in allowing the Intel-based version of Mac OS X to run on non-Apple hardware largely by bypassing the TPM in software . . . . In building your "Hackintosh" however, you may want to keep as close to the hardware configuration of Intel-based Macs for the best compatibility .

Most of the remaining info is beyond me . It sure looks complicated to get a Mac OS to run on a pc - nothing I could do in an hour or so .

546094 2007-05-02 08:32:00 at the moment the only way to run osx legally on pc hardware is through emulation with a PPC osx install. There is no standalone copies of tiger for the intel platform. All copies are tied to the model they came with.
Using the delevepors copy under the x86project would mean pirating a copy off the internet.

At this stage the only benefit of getting OS X to run on a PC would be curiosity since there are no speed advantages to be gained from doing it .

The Developers Copy does not run on a Beige Box. It is the base used to build a customised HACK-OSX with open source drivers and open source kernel (Darwin). A pirated copy can only exist if there is a original. In this case there is no original. There is no theft or piracy here, but surely copyright infringement, which still makes it illegal :(

BTW, It supports much more hardware than the original OSX-Tiger now.
