545801 2007-05-01 02:53:00 When can we expect to see dvd recorders with built in freeview decoders? Greven (91)
545802 2007-05-01 03:15:00 Im with Somebody, what about decoding it through your PC? Will you need special software if you have the dish? Is it only possible through the use of TV-In & a hardware decoder box? Even un-officially through something like H**Plus? Chilling_Silence (9)
545803 2007-05-01 03:33:00 Looks like u can get it on a PC now (www.ascent.co.nz)

I doubt that you'll have to get special sw. It looks like this comes with it.

Just as long as it can decode the signal.

And since its free, It's most probably not encrypted.

Not much good for a sat service.

"WinTV-HVR-900 brings analogue and digital terrestrial TV (DVB-T) to your PC or laptop! Watch, pause and record analogue or DVB-T digital TV in a window or full screen using high quality MPEG-2. And use the WinTV Scheduler to record you favourite analogue or digital TV shows. Play your TV recordings back to your screen any time."

Suspect it may also only be a UK Mpeg2 version not Mpeg 4 that's going to be used here..

I think what they mean is that it is a DVB-T USB tuner.
You need a DVB-S tuner to get Freeview via Sat.

FreeView aren't doing digital UHF terrestrial broadcasting (DVB-T) until next year and even then not everywhere.

545809 2007-05-01 15:13:00 So, something like these two auctions would work then?
www.trademe.co.nz

Or if I were to order a USB 2 device from overseas:
www.wizardsatellite.co.uk

I guess the product Im most interested in would be this one, due to my Media box needing low-profile cards:
www.ifocus.co.nz

All _should_ work?

545810 2007-05-01 20:26:00 Something like this may be of interest to those who want to get sat tv and be able to record it on the same device.
