| 547100 | 2007-05-04 11:46:00 | I've got a HP P4, 2.26ghz, 1gb ram and a Ti4200 64mb ram. I was thinking about upgrading the graphics card to a 6600gt but my mobo only supports 4x agp. Is it worth the upgrade? I like playing call of duty and UT2004 and are hoping that it will make the game play better. Thanks. |

| 547101 | 2007-05-04 14:06:00 | A video upgrade will make a huge difference . These cards are 8x AGP they will work on a 4xAGP mobo . I would upgrade to a: GeForce 6800GS 256MB,AGP - $257 . 63 GeForce 7600 GT 256MB, AGP-$274 . 50 GeForce 7800 GS 256MB, AGP-was the old king of agp-$384 . 95 Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB AGP-is the new king of agp-$381 . 38:thumbs:-check out reviews on this card (make sure its the AGP video card review, their is a pcie version of this card as well) . The 6800GS,7600GT,7800GS can come with 512mb of ram but you will have to have a look for them yourself . Prices from www . pricespy . co . nz as of 05/05/07 What ever you do, do not get a card with less then 256mb,as 256mb is the least amount of ram you want on a graphics card to play the good modern games . 128mb was good in its day for old school games then it was 256mb and still is right now but 512mb makes a difference in the more intense games/more demanding games and as the games get better graphics, look better they need that more ram . I would go for a card with 512mb as to last longer and help out more for the games,I wont buy a card with anything less then 512mb nowadays . Plus when you up the resolution on your monitor that takes more ram as well and when you want to tick all the options in the game as well . Plus if you have 2 gig of ram that helps out heaps as well for gaming . But at the end of the day its up to you how good your game looks, runs, performs if you get a really good card you will see things that a not so good card will do . Example the game Farcry swim in the water,on a low end card you will not get much detail, usually just bubbles and just empty underwater environment, get a really good card and you will see the seaweed, bubbles, fish,it changes the game you get to see so much more detail (deeper, richer colours,water/grass etc),better graphics, smoother playing game etc . When I got a better card I played some of my older games and they played so much better and looked way,way better then when I last played them on my old graphic card,it annoyed me what I had been missing out on, so now I buy better graphic cards-takes awhile to save up but its worth it in the end . Hope this helps . :) |

He now has a 6600,2 gig of ram and a 8800gts and it rocks!! I am so jealous I want his computer!!! :D And thats coming from a person that has only had AMD through my computer use years. 1800XP,2500XP,3500 64,170 Opty.:D |

Why not the 6600GT then? I see its price is around the $165 mark which is a considerable saving from the prices quoted above . What about a 7600GS instead of the GT? Is the performance that much better with the models you quoted? Considering the motherboard is 4x AGP is it worth spending the extra dosh for features that may be counteracted by the 4x limitation? Just curious . :) |

| 547107 | 2007-05-04 21:47:00 | Yes you well notice a hell of alot of differance. On the computer I have now which is 4x AGP I went from a card like yours to a 6800 LE 128mb card which is 8x AGP. I noticed a huge improvement in everything, it made my games look like new ones because of the extra detail I could see. In FS9 I was able to turn the graphics sliders up more and got more detail etc. I could go on and on here about the differance but won't bore you. Trevor :) |

| 547108 | 2007-05-04 22:25:00 | Get the 7600GS, anything more will be restricted far too much by the rest of your gear. | Metla (12) | ||
| 547109 | 2007-05-04 22:26:00 | Morning all, Jen, thats the option i was looking at. A card around $140. Wish i could afford a bigger one but have a budget that i have to try and stick to :( I've seen on trademe some 6600gt's going for about $130. This is what i was looking at. I'll check prices on Pricespy. I may be able to divert another $50 out of the holiday fund:) |
