546773 2007-05-03 22:57:00 I emailed some photos to a friend and apparently he couldn't see any of the photos I sent . So I tried to send the same photos to my office and my friend was absolutely correct . I couldn't open any of the photos either .

All the attached photos have "DAT files" as file types . On the subject line of the email it shows: IMG_3868 . jpg [1/2] but the attached file has: ATT00190 . dat (75 . 4KB)

This problem has only happenned after I re-loaded McAffee (Internet Security 2007) and Shrink PIC .

Any idea why this is?

By the way my home computer can receive emails with photos with no problem at all . I can the photos very clearly using Windows Picture .

Many thanks in advance for your help .

546774 2007-05-03 23:42:00 It's an attachment protection feature of your anti virus program. I use zonealarm and it makes the process of opening attachments far more complicated than it should as well. It forces you to clear the file and then extract it etc...

Check your anti virus programs email settings, maybe you can relax its view of attachments to let them through properly or turn off whatever it is doing to them. You just want it to scan incoming files not lock them down.

Hope this helps.

546776 2007-05-04 04:47:00 Ahah! That's probably what the person I sent an email to was complaining about a week ago. She complained about receiving a "dat" file too. Some security vendors are just plain stupid. TGoddard (7263)
546777 2007-05-04 05:18:00 A "DAT" file is whatever someone wants to call a .DAT file. :D There is no standard. Graham L (2)

546779 2007-05-04 07:46:00 I've seen that a few times. it usually happens when your email client defaults to sending emails in rich text format (all the ones I've seen have been using Microsoft Outlook). you have to get into the options & change the sending format to HTML Greven (91)

The PC has a speech impediment its trying to say "That file".
