547801 2007-05-06 20:59:00 Hi, I bought my computer not too long ago and i am loving it :)
My Rig is:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz stock, overclocked to 3.1Ghz.

2GB PC2 6400 Ram(x2 1024's, Running in dual Channel).

XFX Geforce 8800GTS 640MB.

KINGWIN ABT-630MA1W ATX 12V Power Supply.

Maxtor DiamondMax 300GB Sata II.

Abit AW9D Max MoBo

NEC MultiSync FE950 20 in. Monitor

I can run lots of games on max no prob, but when i start to run Call of duty 2 on Max setting on 1600 x 1200 i lag some. I get around 30 - 45 fps on max in singleplayer. I mean it is play able, but very anoying and my computer should be able to handle it ..... shouldn't it?
I tried turning down the Rez to about 1280 x 1024, and it increased the fps to about 50 - 70fps, which is way better than 30, but still shouldn't i be getting Better performance out of my system?? with the rez at 1600 x 1200??

I also have some FPS issues with other games like Rainbow Six: Vegas and S.T.A.L.K.E.R and sometimes even Quake 4.... but only if i play at AA 16 and 1600 x 1200.
Like i said i can play these game fine it just is anoying when i get FPS drops ... even when i turn the rez down to 1280 x 1024.

My biggest fear tho, is that i will not be able to play any of the "Next Gen Games" on full Graphics, like, Crysis, Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway, Call of duty 4, Medal of Honor: Airborne, Unreal Tournament 2007, Quake Wars, ect. ect.

If anyone has any info on what might be causing the problem please feel free to post back to me, i would really like to solve this problem.

P.s. - I also have the latest nvidia drivers for my 8800gts and i am running Windows XP, also here is a short list of the games i can run on FULL/MAX no prob:
-Prey
-CoD1 + OU
-F.E.A.R + Expansion
-GRAW
-CoH
-BattleField 2
-Flight Simulator X
-FarCry
-MoH Pacific Assult
-C&C 3
-Supreme Commander
-BIA:RTH30 and EIB

547803 2007-05-06 23:28:00 For the games that are giving you problems have you checked to see if there are any patches / updates for them?

Have you tried lowering the overclocking settings to see if that makes it better or worse?

547804 2007-05-07 03:04:00 Why play it on 1600?
It does nothing for the games quality.

547805 2007-05-07 03:17:00 to be honest the FPS you are getting sound about right for your Computer

and you don't need to run 1600x1200 if you use AA and vice versa - you could get a small boost in performance from that - but otherwise those FPS numbers sound normal

EDIT: also keeping games patched and up to date along with Graphics card drivers e.c.t can give a nice boost to a games performance while fixing some issues too

547806 2007-05-07 06:33:00 I agree with the other posters just lower your resolution down and keep windows, games,DX,graphic card drivers, sound card drivers, mobo drivers up to date and don't run to much stuff in the background when gaming.

547807 2007-05-07 19:59:00 This may sound silly but I have found in the past cutting back the sound quality will keep the frame rate up in some games.
Dosent seem to matter what horsepower you are running either.

547808 2007-05-07 20:05:00 If you have other apps running at the same time they could be stealing some grunt. rocky138 (10636)
547809 2007-05-08 00:06:00 Thank you guys for your help :) much appreciated. So what would be a good Rez to run games in you think with my rig ??? would 1280 x 1024 be good for a non-lag/skippy frame rate gaming experience or would 1024 x 768 be good??

BTW: is there a real visual difference between 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 1024 ??

Again, thanks for the feed back i appreciate it a lot.

547810 2007-05-08 05:22:00 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 1024 ??

More sensible.
Try both and see which works for you.

The other settings matter far more. I have FEAR on everything max. But I keep the res at 1024.
And it looks terrific and has excellent FPS.
