2007-05-06 04:39:00 | For no reason I can see Mozilla sudenly is stuffing up attachments I send. Specifically I attach a Word document, fine. Hit send and at the other end Mozilla has decided its associated with itself and rendered the text unreadable, like its lost all the formatting. I tested it by sending myself one. .doc is associated with Word in Windows. No setting that I can see in Mozillas preferences either. I stuffed around for ages and it fixed itself, but then it reverts back to doing it again. This is both the same version of Word I've had for ages and the same version of Mozilla. I do not like Thunderbird, which doesn't do it.

2007-05-06 12:13:00 | This might start really stupid but did you uninstall and reinstall FF becuae this happened to me with .pdf files and I re-installed both FF and Acrobat Reader. So when you go to Tools - Options - Content and click on the Manage tab, what does it show for doc files and what about other file formats?

2007-05-06 20:24:00 | FF? This is Mozilla 1.7.7 suite. I do not use Firefox. I reinstalled Mozilla. Made no difference. Tools - Options is only in Thunderbird not Mozilla. It doesn't rename the file. It just associates it with itself. In Windows .doc is correctly associated. I have since added some code to the mimetypes.rdf and I'll see if it does it again. Weird because it never did this before and I never had to mess with it before. Maybe its a reg entry???

2007-05-06 20:57:00 | So when you save the attachment to your computer, has the file extension changed? And what happens when you open Word then open the doc? Would you care for me to give you my email address so you can send a test doc to me?

Would you care for me to give you my email address so you can send a test doc to me? No. Er....dunno, didn't try that. However its when I send it elsewhere the problem becomes a problem. It strips the formatting or something, you end up with a bunch of ascii. I can see it by emailing one to myslef. I had sent one to someone and they emailed back telling me which is when I first noticed it. I sorted it by fiddling with Mozilla, but it recurs, well it had done before the new mime file amendment anyway. Not sure if thats fixed it. Shouldn'r have needed to do that anyway. I've used Mozilla for ages now. I attach one, it shows there normally in the email, then I send. Then if I look in Sent Items, its changed the icon to Mozillas default. Then if you open it (which Mozilla does as its now default according to Mozilla) you see a mess. So I know when it does it. So far this morning emailing myself doc files by the dozen its behaving. trouble is it behaved before and then reverted, so I don't trust it. |
