547517 2007-05-06 00:40:00 Hey guys,

Some of you may know I'm getting a pc built up (yes, it's the uber pwnage one :D ) but I've been doing some looking, and the motherboard I've currently got 'selected' is as follows:

ASUS P5VD2-MX LGA775 All In One Motherboard Support Intel Presler 65nm Dual core and Core 2 Duo DDR2-400/533 Dual SATA RAID 1*PCI-E 2*PCI

Now, the RAM I have is a:

2x Transcend 1GB DDR2-667, 240-pin, CL5, 16 chips.

How does my RAM work with my motherboard when the motherboard doesn't support the 667?
I was quickly looking at some other motherboards (qmb.co.nz) because the one I want is out of stock atm anyway.
And also...I heard the motherboard doesn't support (I think it was the motherboard anyway) the natural res for my monitor?:

AOC 19" 193FW+ Widescreen LCD Monitor 5ms D-Sub DVI-D Silver/Black

What would be the ideal motherboard (for around the same price) that goes hand in hand with my monitor and RAM?

547518 2007-05-06 00:50:00 Well I wouldnt get one with video onboard.

Thats why most of them are cheap.

If u get an LCD with DVI or VGA,you'll need a card of some sort with one or both on it.

Altho any onboard video will work with any LCD if its got VGA.

Depends what u want to do with the PC after. On whether the video card will be good enough.

547519 2007-05-06 02:16:00 Uhh...that means very little to me....Try explaining it without an explanation next time...or a simple one word answer...So am I fine with the mobo I have atm? --Wolf-- (128)
547520 2007-05-06 02:19:00 Uh well if u wanna play games get a better videocard.

If not then its good enough

547521 2007-05-06 02:24:00 Uh..I never listed my videocard though..

EDIT:

Just re-reading your first post...so that mobo has a videocard for the monitor? And it's not really good enough to play games on? Is that what you mean?

Thats what I mean, most onboard videocards will work with LCDS that have the VGA connection. BUT, if the LCD has only got DVI, you'll have to buy a videocard with a DVI input on it.

And most onboard vidcards have stuff all ram on them, to do anything besides use Windows. So u can actually see something on the screen.

If the mobo says All in one it means the videocard is onboard as well.

547523 2007-05-06 02:33:00 So...what should I get then? (qmb.co.nz)

And if I did get the one I already have listed...what would happen? It won't work at all?

Well no, since the LCD has Sub-D which is normal VGA, it'll work on the mobo.

BUT, depending on what you want to do with this mobo/system, it may not be that great, (with the onboard videocard), with playing games.

Depending on what kind of game it is.

It depends on how much u want to spend on what kind of mobo / parts etc u want to get.

547525 2007-05-06 02:44:00 Well, TBH, I don't want to spend any more on this thing...but if I can get a better mobo for $50 or so, I will.

Define "May not be great with playing games"? It will look crap, laggy, what?

And doesn't my video card (ASUS EN7900GS 256MB PCI-E VIDEO CARD HDTV 2x DVI-I) have anything to do with the monitor, considering it mentions DVI?

This is really starting to confuse me now :(

547526 2007-05-06 02:53:00 And doesn't my video card (ASUS EN7900GS 256MB PCI-E VIDEO CARD HDTV 2x DVI-I) have anything to do with the monitor, considering it mentions DVI?

Well u didnt say u had this before did u?

Chuck it in a slot, it'll be better than whats in it now . Then u wont need another videocard .

Well yer the above looks like its got DVI connections on it, and will also work fine with the LCD .

Everything else looks fine besides the onboard video .

Umm youre right bout the ram, it may not work at all .

Or it may go down to 533 speed, not run at 667 speed .

I would just look for a mobo that supports 667 (and with the parts u have already), or take the ram back and get 533 ram .
