547547 2007-05-06 10:38:00 Well with the 7900 DX10 gaming will not be happening, that is what I mean by nearly obsolete, the 8600 does perform better anyway. and Vista is not as bad as people say, the ONLY reason I am not running it is due to crap drivers giving horrid FPS, once there are better drivers I will be running it.

Do you know how nVidia names thier models? the 8XXX series is NEWER than the 7XXX series, in their generations the 7900 is high end, the 8600 is mid end, but the 8600GT is better than the 7900GS in terms of performance.

547548 2007-05-06 10:40:00 Hi, i bought the P5vd2-mx mobo from qmb with 2 512mb sticks of ddr667 ram.Didn,t realize mobo doesn,t support it,what effect will it have on it?The manual states it supports max resolution of 2048x1536@75hz.I,m using a palit 7600gs 512mb graphics with a new Samsung 19in widescreen monitor using dvi lead.I also delt with Kelvin who is the manager there, havn,t had any issues so far .

The ram you have purchased is faster than the motherboard you have. This will have no adverse effect on your system at all, actually, all that will happen is that your ram will operate at the lower speed that your motherboard DOES support. This is not bad for your motherboard, nor for your ram. If it were the other way around however, it would be very bad.

And oh, it was Kelvin huh? My bad =\

547550 2007-05-06 21:35:00 Just a little more info about the 7900GS, you would NOT be happy with performance if you got this, looking at various benchmakrs my 7800GTX out performs the 7900GS (not by much though) and my GTX is overclocked as far as it will without a voltmod, which I am considering :horrified Anyway, back to the point. I am really not happy with my GTX these days, FEAR runs at 1280x1024 medium and Oblivion runs at 1024x768 low-mid for serious gaming that is just not good... :2cents: The_End_Of_Reality (334)
547551 2007-05-06 22:08:00 Hey there, the ram, it may or may not work, it probably will, but at 533mhz. in this day in age if you shop around you should be able to get somehting that will handle 667/800mhz easy as. i would not recommend getting something ddr/ddr2 now, its out of date before you've even bought it. wratterus (105)
547552 2007-05-06 22:09:00 the mobo that is sorry i didnt explain that well at all wratterus (105)
547553 2007-05-07 06:07:00 the mobo that is sorry i didnt explain that well at all

How can you not get a motherboard that is DDR or DDR2? I don't follow you. What else can you get!?

547554 2007-05-07 06:43:00 Man theres some bollocks floating around in this thread!

The ASUS P5L 1394 supports up to DDR667, and seeing as thats the grade of memory your buying it wouldn't make any sense to buy faster memory ;) The only reason you would consider anything faster is if you wanted to overclock. Core 2 Duo's have heaps of head room in them and getting them up to 3.0Ghz is relatively easy, but requires a little bit of knowledge and if done incorrectly can potentially kill your new CPU. So if your not going to overclock ignore everyone who's told you to buy faster memory.

The 7900GS isn't a bad card, it slightly slower than the 7900GT which performs on par with the 8600GT. The main disadvantage of the 7XXX series is their lack of DX10 support, but by the time the majority of DX10 games come out chances are the 8600GT wont be fast enough to play them. The way I've read your post i got the feeling you already own the 7900GS and replaced it with a 8600GT is this correct? If you haven't brought the graphics card yet the grab a 8600, the price difference is negligible and the support for DX10 may be useful.

547555 2007-05-07 10:23:00 I havent got anything yet.

I am going to get the 1394 mobo, and I am going to get the 8600gt, as it is cheaper.

Thanks.
