Sure can, just add it to a system thats running XP make sure its jumpered properly. And the BIOS is detecting it, then once youre in XP, open my computer, and format it in FAT32.

547912 2007-05-07 04:09:00 Sorry, I didn't get it. Do u mean I should do partition first, then take it out and format it on XP pc? ahd8888 (184)
547913 2007-05-07 04:17:00 Is the hdd u want to format in FAT32 partitioned (like is there a C, D E F) etc on it?

Or is there just one partition on it (C)??

If its the top one, select C and select format, see if it gives u the FAT32 option.

547914 2007-05-07 05:21:00 I has just deleted old partitions (NTFS & FAT32) and created a new and only 1 partition. It hasn't got any file system (NTFS or FAT32) as I haven't format it. Should I put it back to old PC and format it using win95 setup disk. Thanks ahd8888 (184)

Have you tried to format and install from the XP CD? As I said above, it's got to be worth a try. As for file system the choice is yours, but if you're going straight in with XP, I would use NTFS.

547916 2007-05-07 05:30:00 I probably not going to install WinXp as someone has mentioned that I won't be able to use it after 30 days if without activate it (I know there is a way to get around it, but i won't go there at this stage). But I remember that someone said I can with the old WinXp Upgrade disc. Can anyone confirm that? Back to my previous question, should I install it back to old PC and format it with my win 95 or 98 setup disc. Thanks ahd8888 (184)
547917 2007-05-07 23:00:00 XP won't format a FAT32 partition larger than 32G so if you want more than that format from the 98 setup disk.

To get a boot disk with CDROM support I'm pretty sure you can just make one from XP, it will make a Me boot disk by default if memory serves.

You can happily install 95, 98, or Me using a boot disk from any of the 3 os's -they're not too fussy in that regard.

If you're not comfortable with dos commands such as fdisk, format, cd, dir, etc you may have problems setting up from a boot bisk.

Here's a complicated work around.
1. boot from floppy, type format c: /s to make c: bootable (make sure format command is on the floppy) - if the drive is already formatted you can try "sys c:" instead
2. put hdd in another machine make a dir called win98 or similar and copy windows CD into it
3. put the hdd back in your computer, boot up from C: type "CD win98" without speechmarks
4. type setup
5. way ya go

this will work for 95, 98, or Me and has the advantage that you will never be asked for the windows CD again providing you don't delete the install directory
