547898 2007-05-07 02:44:00 Ok, I can see now what you are doing.

Like Miami Steve said, XP may only want to see the win98 CD.

I have no experience of XP upgrade disks. With win98SE upgrade, I certainly had to install win98 first to run the upgrade.

It may pay you to try to run the XP upgrade disk, and hope that it asks you to put the win98 CD in temporarily so that it knows you are upgrading.

If that doesn't work then you have the tedious route win95 > win98 > Win XP.

If the CD drive is actually working then the only reason I can see why win95 is not being seen is that there are no CD drivers installed from your boot floppy. So you would need to download one.

547899 2007-05-07 02:50:00 It all because I only have the Upgrade version of all my OS disc. I don't have disc which is for new PC. ahd8888 (184)
547900 2007-05-07 02:53:00 I have tried to install an old Floppy Disketh (CD-ROM DEVICE DRIVER), version 2.14. But it's still say D drive not available. ahd8888 (184)
547901 2007-05-07 03:04:00 And this XP CD, is it brand new, or did u install it on another computer?

Have you tried to install XP on a clean machine? I wouldn't put money on it, but I have a feeling that even an upgrade disc of an earlier OS version is acceptable to the XP installation process. You've got nothing to lose - you'll know within half an hour or so.

547903 2007-05-07 03:20:00 Yes, I understand 1 WinXP for 1 PC, it will only tell me that it is not a genuine copy. However, I am not even at that stage yet. I haven't even been able to load Win95 or Win 98 or ME. :o ahd8888 (184)
547904 2007-05-07 03:27:00 Yes, I understand 1 WinXP for 1 PC, it will only tell me that it is not a genuine copy.

Well no if its genuine it wont, but it wont activate either, and it'll lock u out after 30 days. If its already installed on another PC.

However, I am not even at that stage yet. I haven't even been able to load Win95 or Win 98 or ME. :o

I wouldnt install ME fullstop. Its the worst version of windows, that came out.

And if all of these are upgrades, I doubt any of them will work, unless u install a full version of something.

547905 2007-05-07 03:33:00 I know the new win xp disc would require u to activate it within 30 days. But I got the old Win xp upgrade version which I think it doesn't require to activate it to use it. Am i right?

Just wondering, it won't let me load my win95, is it because it is NTFS format and it can't read FAT32? Thanks

No. ALL Windows XP discs will require activation. The only exception to this (as far as I am aware) is discs under the Corporate Select program (or whatever it's called).

547907 2007-05-07 03:40:00 Umm no any version of XP, whether its a full version or upgrade requires activation.

Well, except versions that have already been installed, its most probably activated already. Well, the corp version is actually the pirated version, which doesnt need activation.

That sounds right if the hdd is NTFS, 95/98 cant read NTFS.

Somehow, you'll have to reformat it in FAT/FAT32.

You could try connecting it to another computer (the hdd), and reformat it then reconnect it again (to the system it was on), then try and install 95/98 on it.
