547527 2007-05-06 03:03:00 So..the whole monitor/mobo thing is fine with my videocard?

The 533 Ram is more expensive for some odd reason...

The only cheap mobo that supports 667 was:

www.qmb.co.nz
and
www.qmb.co.nz

Will either of them work, and are they better/worse?

Yup its fine it'll work OK.

www.qmb.co.nz

and

Both should work, BUT I would get the 1394 since its got firewire as well. The other hasnt got it.

Everything else on both seems to be similar except the other has onboard video (like the one u have).

547529 2007-05-06 03:23:00 So you'd get the 1394 over all 3? (Incl the one I already have selected?)

Firewire is more important that the onboard video? It's in stock..so for an extra $50, as long as it's better and I'll be getting more outa my RAM (and monitor still?) I suppose it's worth it.

I'm not doubting you, but could I get a second opinion anyone?
--Wolf-- (128)
547530 2007-05-06 03:33:00 Well like I said keep the onboard video if u dont plan on playing games. Since most onboard video cards dont have enough ram on them.

You'll just get something on the screen.

Well yer firewire IMO is better than onboard video. HEAPS better.

547531 2007-05-06 04:49:00 (yes, it's the uber pwnage one :D ) b
I was quickly looking at some other motherboards

What would be the ideal motherboard (for around the same price) that goes hand in hand with my monitor and RAM?

You have a number of contradictions in your description:

Uber pwnage and cheap both describing the same PC.
Onboard graphics and uber pwnage - ditto.

To be uber pwnage, ditch that motherboard and get an ASUS model that supports your ram. 667 is better. 800 even more uber.

And forget onboard graphics. You have a reasonable graphics card. Use it.
Even if it isn't uber anything.

And I wouldn't personally buy from QMB.

For gaming the number one important componet is the graphics card.

Then ram and CPU.

Make sure you have a decent brand PSU too, whatever case you use.

547532 2007-05-06 05:24:00 pctek, obviously you didn't read the last few posts.

Sounds like I'm gonna go for a:

ASUS P5L 1394 Intel 945P Chipset LGA775 ATX 1066FSB Pentium D & Core 2 Duo & 65nm Dual-Core, Dual-channel DDR2-400/533/667, 1*PCIE16x, 3*PCI, 4*SATA, 2*1394, Gigabit Lan, SATAII

Over the other.

Why would you not buy from QMB? BTW, the uber pwnage was a joke...okay?

Anyway, here are the rest of the specs:

x1 Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 2.13Ghz
x1 Seagate Barracuda 250GB SATAII 7200RPM hard drive 16MB cache
x2 Transcend 1GB DDR2 667 Ram
x1 Asus P5VD2-MX motherboard ---- ASUS P5L 1394 Intel 945P (?)
x1 Asus DRW-1608P3S DVD writer
x1 ASUS 7900GS 256MB Video Card
x1 Raidmax Ninja 918 Gaming Tower Case 520W
x1 Silverstone Element 500W Power Supply
x1 AOC 19" 193FW Widescreen LCD Monitor 5ms
x1 Logitech X-530 Speaker System with Subwoofer 5:1
x1 Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Desktop Mouse
x1 Eclispse Illuminated Keyboard*

Also, go ahead and find me a better, cheaper place locally (chch) over QMB if you don't wanna buy from them.

Thats better .

Because I have friends who have bought form them - and there was always arguments when something was taken back for warranty replacement .

Whats wrong with Ascent - free shipping . . . . . . . . . .
pctek (84)
547534 2007-05-06 06:14:00 Well...do you mind doing up a cart of the parts I need and showing me a price comparison? I'm going with QMB because I can get a discount there. --Wolf-- (128)
547535 2007-05-06 07:27:00 No wonder Ascent do free shipping, their prices are so darn expensive! I just made a cart up with the exact some parts, and it turned out quite a bit more expensive. --Wolf-- (128)
547536 2007-05-06 09:17:00 Edit: Nvm this post, I actually only read through page 1 of this thread before replying and then read page 2. Found your questions have already been answered.
