547888 2007-05-07 01:51:00 Hi
I have a Pentium II computer originally with Window XP, have to reformat b'cos of too many junk plus it crash everyday. After formated, try to install Window 95 then upgrade to Win XP. Why is it not able to read my Win 95 disc? How can I install win 95? Thanks

547889 2007-05-07 01:56:00 Why do you need to install Win 95. The Win XP install (even as an upgrade which I assume it is) will only need to "see" the Win 95 disc.

On second thoughts, is Win 95 to Win XP upgrade supported? If the Win XP is a full version, just go straight into that without installing Win 95.

547890 2007-05-07 01:56:00 How did u try and install from the 95 CD??

You cant install 95 while XP is installed.

And u cant install 95 after XP has been installed.

Did u change the bootdisk in the BIOS to the 95 CD?? Then boot from it?

And if you're installing 95 then upgrading to XP, why install 95 in the first place?

The XP CD is bootable, and will install XP from the XP CD.

547891 2007-05-07 02:05:00 First of all to clear the air, a Win95 CD is not bootable, so that removes that red herring :)

The most probable reason the Win95 CD cannot be "seen" is that CDROM drivers have not been installed.

You most likely need to download a win95 boot floppy with CDROM support, I'm assuming win95B or later not 95a. Then partition and format FAT32.

The win95 OS can then be installed from the CD by typing 'setup'.

It is also possible, you dont say, that you formatted the HDD from XP in which case it may be formatted NTFS, which you dont want for Win95.

Oops, I don't think that last statement is possible:), so how did you carry out the formatting?

547892 2007-05-07 02:22:00 I only got Win Xp upgrade version, so I have to install Win 95 first, then Upgrate to WIN XP.

I used the Win95 setup disk to FDISK, then format.

547893 2007-05-07 02:24:00 It is true, it is not possible to upgrade to XP from 95:

www.microsoft.com

So you need to re-state what it is you are actually trying to do, and what XP CD you have.

547894 2007-05-07 02:28:00 If that case, I will have to install Win 95, then upgrade to Win 98SE, then win Xp. Right? But at the moment, it can't read my Win95 disc. :help: ahd8888 (184)
547895 2007-05-07 02:36:00 Hmm.. I've got a Microsoft Win95B setup disk which is a "CD-ROM Setup Boot Disk", that gives CD ROM support, loading drivers via config.sys and autoexec.bat, so that the CD can be run.

So yours should do that too, but after reading that MS site referenced above I'm dubious as to whether 95 should be installed.

547896 2007-05-07 02:39:00 Well, if you want to use XP, u dont need 95 or 98 or anything else.

Change the boot disk in the BIOS to CD. Chuck the XP cd in and boot from it to install XP.

547897 2007-05-07 02:43:00 If that case, I will have to install Win 95, then upgrade to Win 98SE, then win Xp. Right? But at the moment, it can't read my Win95 disc. :help:

Why do you insist on installing each OS? You only need the previous OS installation disc (as long as the upgrade path is valid) to be available during the XP installation. You do NOT need to physically install the prior OS's.

If you have a Win 98 SE disc (which can be upgraded to XP) then have that available and toss the Win95 disc where it belongs - in the bin.
