| 548412 | 2007-05-09 03:51:00 | Thanks...of course I know how to get something that can be restored out of the bin, but this was deleted from the bin. I read that thread but it doesn't seem to really apply to me..is there a program or something that restores things solely from the recycle bin? |

| 548413 | 2007-05-09 04:25:00 | There's a few free apps around for file recovery. One I can recommend is Recuva (recuva.com/) (from the people that brought you CCleaner (http:)). It's labelled beta but I've used it without problems. It's small and highly portable meaning it's a single executable able to happily run from a USB drive. I keep it in my ":\apps\utilities" folder on my usb stick. |

You can also look through the Back Up and Recovery category (www.softpedia.com) there for other similar apps, but this is the best option imho. | sal (67) | ||

| 548417 | 2007-05-09 05:32:00 | Give files their original extensions . Of course, there are no guarantees that "deleted" files can be recovered . All that a recovery programme does is ressssssstsopration of the directory entry, so the areas on the disk used by the file can be accessed . Part or all of those areas on the disk can be overwritten by new files while the file is "deleted" . I'd be a bit suspicious if file extensions have been changed . That might indicate that there are problems . If the directories have been restored with " . dat" extensions, you could look at them using Notepad . A lot of a directory is plain text, but there will be other silly looking stuff, so don't worry about that . There won't be any newline separators, either, excepot by accident . You couild then try removing the extension, because directories don't have file extensions . |
