548385	2007-05-08 14:06:00	Hi all, I have finally put together my first hard out high end desktop system, and as expected have encountered my first (hopefully of not many) annoying problem. As an intro to all this, I have put together: Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 Motherboard Intel Duo Core 2.66GHz (E6700) CPU Zalman CNPS9700 Aero Flower Cooler 4GB RAM (2 x 2GB pieces) Gigabyte nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX Graphics Card 2 x 320GB Seagate SATAII HDD's in RAID config ASUS DVD-RW Corsair HX620W PSU All is running smoothly, and there are no problems, however when the system is under load, and the CPU temperature gets up to about 55 degrees C, the system speaker lets out a God awful screech/beep until it cools back down again. I consistently get this in Battlefield:2142 (present game of choice) when a loading of graphics occurs. I would note that there is absolutely no performance degradation, and the thing runs sweeter than chocolate on the Playboy playmate of the year........... Now my question/s effectively lies around what setting is telling the system to scream it's lungs out, and/or how I can change this???? I have checked the BIOS alarm settings and they are all switched off - unless I am missing something. I will admit to not being very brave when it comes to the BIOS, and I haven't really ventured too far in changing settings, so they are very much on default from the box (except for the obvious boot, and RAID settings). 548386	2007-05-08 14:17:00	Have you checked out how hot the GFX card is getting (in Control Panel) and see what temp its supposed to warn you at and how it will do so or of course it could just be in the bIOS.	beeswax34 (63)
548387	2007-05-08 14:48:00	Given I am running Vista, I have not installed the Forceware program, as I am not too sure it will run on Vista, so I cannot tell you what the Graphics Card settings are. I am beginning to think that this is the problem however, as when I fire up the Vista Experience Score, the problem occurs again, and this is from when the computer is running quite cool........ So sounds more like a Graphics card overload.......... Would this be a deficiency in power, or a setting within the GTX to prevent overheating/overclocking wihtout using the right program? Still, and help around this would be appreciated!	arseynimz (6919)
548388	2007-05-08 15:28:00	I would say its warning u the CPU temp is getting to high. It would be in the CPU itself, as most CPU's will shut down if the temp gets too high. Or else you'll kill / fry it. I would say the max temp would be round 60-65 degrees. And then it'll shut down.	Speedy Gonzales (78)
548389	2007-05-08 18:30:00	Pretty much agree with Speedy. I think it's your Motherboard's way of telling you that the temps are too high. Suggest you look into your BIOS settings to check if the CPU warning temps are set too low, and/or get some better ventilation and cooling into the box. Also you could have mucked up when putting the CPU onto the mobo and haven't properly connected the HSF with the chip or you didn't properly apply the thermal pad or paste.	Greg (193)

548391	2007-05-08 21:58:00	Yeah, the more I've looked in to it, the more the conclusion is that it's the Graphics Card. The evidence points in that direction, as I loaded up the applications that were running last night, and the CPU got up to about 55 degrees according, and no screech/beep. So now it's narrowed down, anyone have any ideas on what I could do to calm the noise!??? Also, out of interest, what is a safe operating temp for my CPU? Thanks	arseynimz (6919)

548393	2007-05-09 03:32:00	system speaker lets out a God awful screech/beep until it cools back down again. So, describe this again. Its a continuous noise without pause until when? Not just a series of beeps? Beep or screech, which?	pctek (84)
548394	2007-05-09 05:13:00	Rightyo, It's a single long screeching, and remains screeching when playing a game until the graphics on screen are less intense. So using Battlefield 2142 as an example, when you blow something up the explosion maxes out something, and you hear the screech until the explosion goes away. I even tested mid flight by looking away from the explosion and then looking back to which the screech went away and came back again. I can also get the screech when I do the Vista experience score test/refresh. This occurs when vista is checking the video/3D settings etc. in particular. My monitor is a 24" wide Dell UXGA, and I am running it at 1920 x 1200, so that will no doubt put stress on the card anyway, but running Battlefield 2142 it is only running at 1600 x 1024? (not sure on the 1024 but 1600 is the first number). I am also running Vista Ultimate as my OS. All help appreciated.	arseynimz (6919)
