549112 2007-05-11 09:13:00 computer displays an error message while on screen saver black a black screen which shows:

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
SYSTEM32\DRIVERS.SYS
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."

boots off setup disk then stops and displays "setupdd.sys error number is 4"

549114 2007-05-11 19:34:00 A little more info please? - did it ever run? - what happened to cause this issue?
Did the system crash or just fail to start one day?
Any noise (clicking perhaps? ) coming from hard drive?
Leaning towards hard drive failure at the moment.

549115 2007-05-12 07:13:00 removed graphics card and got further. now computer locks up saying it has recovered from a serious problem and to send a report, if system doesn't lock up immediately the report then links me to s3 graphics web site. poota (12251)
549116 2007-05-12 07:18:00 wife had been using computer in afternoon left it as we normally do screensaver comes on then monitor switches to stand by. when i came home it it was on the original error page. have had computer running fine for last 20 months without any issues. Didn't notice any difference in noise coming from hard drive. poota (12251)
