548940 2007-05-11 01:25:00 Purchasing Vista from the US, are there any problems, I mean will the software work OK etc
It is just that even taking into account the exchange rate, the software is still about 1/2 the cost

548941 2007-05-11 03:10:00 Call Microsoft and ask them. They will be able to advise you:0800 800 004 beeswax34 (63)
548942 2007-05-11 04:26:00 If they have considered this, they might put difficuties in your way. They set the retail prices in each country they deal with. Isn't the price about $2 in some countries where they have piracy problems and have to set the price "competitively"? You'd get worthwhile savings importing from one of those countries. ;) Graham L (2)
548943 2007-05-11 05:48:00 Well it appears the cheapest option may be to get a downloadable version from the Microsoft website (if it lets me), as the boxed copies will require shipping, insurance plus gst plus the import entry transaction fee ($22) although it would still be a damn site cheaper than buying it from nz

I had a grump on the fair go board (tvnz.co.nz) (Dick Smiths is apparently an offensive term, anyone surprised?)
Who knows if enough people grumble Fair Go may get a Microsoft lacky on tv to explain why in plain english rather than the usual obfuscating marketing drivel (pcworld.co.nz) that they currently answer people with

548944 2007-05-11 13:33:00 Vista Ultimate from Amazon.com (A retailer called V-Art is doing brand new with international shipping in 3-6 weeks) costs:
343.44 USD = 470.397 NZD
United States Dollars New Zealand Dollars

I checked Pricespy and places are only doing OEM copies except DSE charging $700 for the UPGRADE, not Retail..?

548945 2007-05-11 21:04:00 $470 will attract GST so make that $529. A Vista Ultimate Upgrade DVD here is about $560. Is there that much of a problem assuming you've got a copy of XP or 2000 to upgrade from? PaulD (232)

Is there that much of a problem assuming you've got a copy of XP or 2000 to upgrade from? That might be all good in theory, but if you have to install often for some reason, it will get very tedious having to install XP or 2000 and then upgrade to Vista :2cents: The_End_Of_Reality (334)
548947 2007-05-11 21:36:00 Even if u get an upgrade of Vista, wouldnt it allow u to put the XP or 2K CD in, (like it did with previous versions).

Just to prove u have / had a previous version?

Without installing all of XP or 2K?

Doesn't work like that any more Speedy, you need to upgrade from within the existing OS, but there is a built in workaround

And on top of that you have an import entry transaction fee of $22, so that makes it around $553, but it is the full version which is what i need :)

However if I was to get the Upgrade version
It is $192 (US) (from V-art) which is around $265(NZ) which puts it below the $400 threshhold so no GST charged, which makes it way cheaper than buying the same thing here in NZ at around $560 as you mentioned. and even leaves me enough money to buy a new graphics card to replace my old 64Mb one so i can view Vista in all it's glory
