548801 2007-05-10 09:42:00 Hi everyone, I'm just wondering how much powers does a computer use (doesn't have to be very specific) in 24 hours with a LCD monitor(always on), 500w power supply?

thanks :D

548802 2007-05-10 09:51:00 I spose it depends on whats in it etc.

An LCD wouldnt be a prob as its not actually using anything in it. Besides the videocard.

Whats the specs of the PC itself and whats in it. hdd/cd/dvd etc

548804 2007-05-10 10:29:00 Probably around 100W during idle. Maybe around 150W during load. Add about 50W for the LCD monitor.

So that's about 200W max. But when you don't use it, the screen also turns off. So, that's about 100W.

548805 2007-05-10 10:59:00 Maybe a bit more. In this recent thread gf found that just the box averaged 140W.pressf1.pcworld.co.nz PaulD (232)

A "500W" supply would pull a lot more than 500W if it was fully loaded, maybe 600-700W . PC supplies are not particularly efficient; they're designed to be cheap to make . However, it would be very unusual for one to be fully loaded .

548807 2007-05-11 08:23:00 Enermax has ~85% efficiency according to their website (tests show this is 80-83) but still good apparently. Agent_24 (57)
