549044 2007-05-13 11:18:00 OK, I think I have got it sorted :D

A little tweaking of settings in Ulead DVD Moviefactory and it looks to be all good (fast skip through :p) but the real test comes when I go to watch the whole thing :waughh:

The only settings I changed was normalize audio and 2 pass conversion... would either of those make the difference?

549045 2007-05-13 11:30:00 I take it you didn't have the 2 pass conversion button clicked prior to the issue? winmacguy (3367)
549046 2007-05-13 11:38:00 No, I didn't... I thought it would have been on by default... The_End_Of_Reality (334)
549047 2007-05-13 11:56:00 Well not that it is related, but it is not on by default in Handbrake. It is an option that you have to check as is grey scale encoding. winmacguy (3367)
549048 2007-05-13 21:24:00 For future reference on splitting VOB files, why not use VOB Splitter (www.digital-digest.com)? :) autechre (266)
549049 2007-05-13 21:40:00 For future reference on splitting VOB files, why not use VOB Splitter (www.digital-digest.com)? :) I did... along with many other .VOB splitting programs, which were all useless... and the one you said can only split the files into a max size of 10MB  completely useless... I was needing one that could split to 1GB with exactly the same size as the .VOBs on the DVD so I could replace them (that was the theory anyway) The_End_Of_Reality (334)
549050 2007-05-14 22:49:00 Use DVD Shrink then :) Chilling_Silence (9)
549051 2007-05-14 23:24:00 Use DVD Shrink then :)

Thats what i was going to say when i had got to the end of the thread :D

If you want to try it as an experiment, open the good vob file up in dvd shrink and burn it from there.

549053 2007-05-15 02:42:00 I've had the same issue with some Divx files, it seems to be related to the audio format used, if you have the option try a different one VBR especially causes problems. One soution that has worked for me was to strip out the audio with a program called "decompress" to an uncompressed .wav then re-encode to mpeg2 with an old version of tmpenc using the two seperate files as audio and video sources.

Seems to me though if you're going MPG2 - AVI - DVD (MPG2 again) that you are introducing an unecessary drop in quality and would be better off staying in MPG2 format. Yes the AVI may "look" as good as the original but it throws away data to achieve the compression only for you to turn around and expand it back to MPG2 again. If you want an AVI file encode it after you've got the final DVD.

And as for all these comments about USB2, sounds to me like you are just transferring data and it doesn't matter which interface you use for that. If you are video capturing through USB2 then maybe.

Or just buy a $150 DVD player with Divx support and leave the files in Divx format. (personally I prefer Xvid using AutoGK to do the encoding I get excellent results)
