Seriously though, thanks :)

Good to see that you've been "encouraged" to pursue the free Windows alternatives. ;)

How big is the file your working with?

549025 2007-05-11 10:06:00 Nero is your issue,Try a different program.(a Ulead app with a free trial for example, or I think maybe Tmpgenc have deveopled into a full DVD authoring app with a freee trial.)

Forget encoding it to vob, which is just dvd compliant mpeg wrapped up in a way thats meant for a DVD disc.

Note my second post ;) I have tried Nero, Ulead DVD Movie Factory (Full) and Super DVD Creator, but all of these came with the same out of sync audio just the amount varied with Super DVD Creator being the least and Nero the most. I will have a look at Tmpgenc.

Yes, I know it is, but the theory behind that was to encode it to that and then (theoretically) it would need no conversion going onto the DVD ;) but it does do some sort of a conversion, but it only takes 5 mins compared to the 40 for the AVI to DVD... which causes the video to artifact...

549028 2007-05-11 10:42:00 I would re-record it.

If its got RCA/video plugs connect it to a TV and re-record with a VCR (If they still exist) / another camcorder or something.

Or if someones got a TV tuner plug it into that using s-video or something.

Or record it with a camcorder that supports firewire. If u know someone whos got one.

Any way besides USB.

I have DLed Tmpgenc and am going to give that a shot.

Any way besides USB. OK, I have a tuner in my media box... I will try that. oh goodie... 3 hours of raw video to capture and cut down again :p oh well, I will try capturing 10 mins of the footage and burn to DVD and see if that has the same issue.

Though I don't see how getting it onto PC is the issue cause the raw footage and the edited final plays fine, there is no audio sync issue or video artifacts in them, it is only the DVD copies that these popup... :badpc:

I will capture 10 mins and try burning that and report back in the morning

549030 2007-05-11 11:02:00 I bet it'll be better and in sync, than when u used USB to transfer it.

Just record it in MPeg2, (If u have a program for the tuner that is, and its got an option to record in MPeg2).

Then Nerovision should be able to deal with it / burn it to DVD.

549031 2007-05-11 11:16:00 Firewire is much more suited to capturing video than USB, as USB is too slow. winmacguy (3367)
549032 2007-05-11 13:18:00 IEE1394 = 400mbps
USB2.0 = 480mbps
IEE1394c = 800mbps
HDD cant keep up: www.clubmac.com Ultra320+SCSI,+3.5%22+Hard+drive~mfg~ST3146854LW.a sp

USB2.0 = Fine :)

So let me get this straight:
You capture it and it saves it as MPEG2 files, which are fine when played back on your PC? But when you _burn_ it, then it gets messy? Or did I skip too many posts...

USB 2 has a higher initial burst speed, hence the 480mbps after that it tends to drop off considerably whereas Firewire has a greater sustained transfer rate which is why both Firewire 400 and Firewire 800 are used for video rather than USB. There as possibly a few other technical factors involved, but those are just the ones I am aware off.
