2007-05-13 04:34:00 Hoping someone can:horrified help, please. I have a Compaq Presario 5420 and running XP with service pack 2 and updated. I have just installed a new DVD drive, DVDR /RW DX162D-A, which works really well. I have an existing CD drive a Lite-On LTR-24102B. I have set the DVD as a slave and the CD drive is untouched. Problem I have is I put a CD disk, into the CD drive, the light flashes for a while and the ejects the CD. If I persist and keep reloading, sometimes it will engage and be assessable, but not always. I had the same problem when I installed a CD Rom, sometime ago. If I uninstall the second drive, the CD drive works find. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ian. ianhnz (4263)
2007-05-13 04:53:00 Check that the CD drive is not using cable select, if it's on the end of the cable and the cable is 40 conductor. This will in effect cause both drives to try to become slave, which may cause problems.

So check/change all jumper/cable configs and you should find a setting where both drives work together.

2007-05-13 05:04:00 Thanks, Agent_24. Just looked at the back of the DVD drive. Where the little jumper pin is, it marked as, C S M over S L A. IE C/S S/L & M/A. So, um, not being a computer junky, um what do I do next? I have the jumper in the C/S port, it was in the M/A when it arrived. Thanks, Ian. ianhnz (4263)
2007-05-13 05:34:00 Make your DVD Drive Master M/A and Your CD ROM Drive Slave S/L radium (8645)
2007-05-13 05:40:00 Cable select will only work if you have a compatible cable.. if you have a 40-conductor cable set the drive on the end to slave and the drive on the middle to master, if you have an 80-conductor cable then do the opposite of the 40. Agent_24 (57)
2007-05-13 06:05:00 I have reset the DVD as S/L, was C/S, but just the same. I can't get the existing CD drive out. Jammed solid, so can't change that. Interesting that my CD DVD cleaning disk works in the Cd drive, but a data disk won't.. ianhnz (4263)
