549405 2007-05-12 21:48:00 Hi,
I am debating whether to get a monitor camera to use in conjunction with amoungst others,Skype.
I see all my USB ports are full.
Would using a double plug, so to speak, interfere with what, say, the original one already in use with say a camera, already in that port, if used together- ie a camera and scanner

Would a $49.95 camera ,being the cheapest at DSE, work,or are there cheaper ones anywhere?
Looks like I am tripping over my own words ( blame age)
:help:

You need a USB hub. Preferably powered.

549407 2007-05-12 22:54:00 How often do you need the scanner and camera at the same time? Might be a bit inconvenient but wouldn't it be just as easy to unplug one when you need the other? Pete O'Neil (6584)
549408 2007-05-12 23:05:00 A USB "double plug" is essentially a USB hub, so yes, it should work without any problems. somebody (208)
549409 2007-05-13 00:47:00 I moved from a 2 port USB hub for my old PC and assorted peripherals to a 7 Port USB hub (currently in use) on my iMac with numerous assorted peripherals (Digital camera, Printer/scanner and iPod) all attached and running happily. I have a DV camera also but that connects to my iMac via Firewire for video capture. winmacguy (3367)

Thank you all -if I go ahead with the monitor camera, it is fairly obvious that it is feasible

549411 2007-05-13 08:26:00 I think there is a fairly good selection priced between $40 and $80. I got my old one a few years ago for about 59.95 . The quality and smoothness of the image you see depends a lot on the bandwidth and the codecs that the camera supports. The best codec is h.264 winmacguy (3367)
