549755 2007-05-14 08:19:00 Hi All.
Do all of the Vista OS's have this?

Is anybody actually using it?

If so, how does it compare with earlier Speech Recognitions, such as on MS Office Prof 2003 ?

Yes I know there are Programs out there, such as Dragon Speaking Naturally, & others. PJ

549756 2007-05-14 08:24:00 I saw a demo of Vista's speech recognition on Youtube last week... lets say it was a bit of a joke.

549757 2007-05-14 08:26:00 Yeah, I think all Vistas except Starter has Speech Recognition.

The problem with mine though is the poor drivers Realtek provides.

549758 2007-05-14 08:59:00 Is it a "Stand Alone" program, that can be used without Vista? PJ Poppa John (284)

I don't think any of the programs that come with MS are "stand alone" because if they were they would fall outside of Microsoft's practice of bundling apps with the OS.

549761 2007-05-14 09:52:00 What are you wanting to do that requires Speech recognition software PJ ? winmacguy (3367)
549762 2007-05-14 09:59:00 I would be very happy if I can get my mic to work properly. That way I can just dictate commands to open my everyday programs. qazwsxokmijn (102)

From the demos that I have seen, it would probably be easier and faster to set up and use desktop shortcuts (or have your apps located in the Vista dock -assuming it works that way) and keyboard commands, rather than worry about telling your PC what to do- since it is Microsoft we are talking about:rolleyes:

MS is not the only company that incorporates speech recognition software with their OS.

I do a lot of writing. I scribble/print onto lined paper then type into Word. Lately my fingers have not been doing what my brain says to do. Only two fingers at that. So I looked at re-visiting Speech to Text. I did try the MS Office 2003 version but was not very successful, & gave it away. I will probably have to try a bit harder. PJ
