549671 2007-05-14 03:59:00 I am looking to buy a new DVD Burner (not used).

External
Budget: $100-150
Good quality

Any links to ebay, company websites, anything .. Thank you.

I was looking into this one (www.grassrootscomputers.com) because I recently bought an external harddrive from them[Grassroots computers] and it was good .. customer service/shipping/quality/price.

Is that one any good ?

549672 2007-05-14 04:22:00 Well do you want internal, external, what currency are you talking about? The_End_Of_Reality (334)
549673 2007-05-14 04:44:00 I take it from the link you posted that you're based in the US ?

As this is a New Zealand forum we probably can't help much as far as price goes, the one in the link looks ok but it's not a brand I've ever heard of before.

If the slimline profile isn't an issue it might be cheaper to buy an external 5 1/4" enclosure and install a standard DVD writer in it, that way you can use whatever brand of DVD writer you like for, example the pioneer 111D which is generally regarded as a good drive and is reasonably priced (in NZ anyway)

I could do this in NZ for about $170-$180 which I think equates to about $130-$140 in US dollars

549674 2007-05-14 05:34:00 ya, I'm from the US.

Currency: US Dollars
External DVD Burner

Any links even if it's with different currency will help, maybe I can find the same one on USD.

Thank you.

549675 2007-05-14 06:04:00 Pioneer DVR-212 Dual Layer DVD Writer

Mine works a charm. The DVR-212 is SATA so if you still use IDE then the lower version DVR-112D would suite.

Can get the DVR-112D for $50NZD. Newegg tells me $32USD.
www.newegg.com

EDIT: Newegg users also happen to rate the DVR-112D the best DVD Burner.

549676 2007-05-14 06:14:00 For a US resident with access to Newegg why not look there at something like the Samsung SE-S184M ~$80 or the Liteon LH-20A1HX ~$68 on special where you know what the DVD drive is and the manufacturer has put it in an enclosure that works with that drive? Not all drives work well in every enclosure.

The deal you linked may be OK but it just a brand and who knows what the hardware really is.
