549653 2007-05-14 03:21:00 I see we can now have custom avatars but I am having trouble resizing mine. I have an avatar on another website and the size there is fine, but no matter what I do, I can't seem to get it small enough to use here! It was only a 28.4KB file anyway, but despite changing the resolution and size, I can't seem to get it any smaller. It's so small I can barely see it myself, but the size is still showing as 24.1KB.

Any ideas? I have the original digital photo (355KB) so can play around with that too, but I can't seem to find any information on here about how to make it less than 12KB.

549654 2007-05-14 03:39:00 What software are you using to resize the image, what filetype are you saving as? Agent_24 (57)
549655 2007-05-14 03:43:00 I use Photoshop CS2 and was just saving it as a JPEG image. That worked fine for the other site but not here, hence the query. I tried posting the URL of the other site's avatar too, but it said it was too large. Beemer (6956)
549656 2007-05-14 03:47:00 Hi Beemer,

My avatar is 121x160 kb which is way above yours, I merely followed the process and Xp, F1, or whatever, sized it to fit
I only learned how to install it thanks to Smithie 38 when he poked fun at me for my lack of knowledge, and any sizing was done as I proceeded- I sure as anything was unable to do it with his help-- but then I am OLD
;) :groan:

549657 2007-05-14 03:59:00 I wouldn't bother too much, as PF1 seems to do it all for you. I just changed mine and didn't bother to resize down from 39kB, PF1 did it for me :) Terry Porritt (14)

But how? When I tried loading it from my computer, it came up with a box saying it was too large!

549659 2007-05-14 04:07:00 Take the original image and resize its dimensions, then choose Save For Web when saving it. Greg (193)

I don't know, it just did :)

The original picture is 39kB, 210x269 pixels, after PF1 had at it, it ended up 2.68kB, 62x80 pixels.

549662 2007-05-14 04:36:00 I wasn't created. I arrived in the usual way: the stork left me under a gooseberry bush. ;) Avatar (10372)
