550437 2007-05-16 23:58:00 Anyone here tried this? I'm generally a bit nervous about registry cleaners but gave Advanced Windows Care 2V a try a few days ago. My laptop has been sluggish despite spyware scans etc and I suspect it was partly because of games installed by my children (and uninstalled by me :D )

I've used Easycleaner before which helped but not with dramatic results.

I'm happy to cautiously report that AWC has made an astonishing difference. The bootup time is now so fast I wondered if I'd actually done a restart at all. The big change is that a Canon scanner application is no longer jamming startup, something which I'd never found a solution for.

Early days and there is always a chance something is fouled up but so far I'm impressed. Free for personal use www.majorgeeks.com

550438 2007-05-17 00:14:00 I just use Ccleaner. It does the same thing. Speedy Gonzales (78)
550439 2007-05-17 02:28:00 Hey Winston, can you do a system restore back to before AWC did its "magic" and see if CCleaner does the same job? :D FoxyMX (5)
550440 2007-05-17 04:02:00 Virtually all machines I look at can be sped up tremendously by stopping the un-needed startup progs. Usually, I can usually stop 10-12. Impresses folk mightily! linw (53)

Yep. I've also used Black Viper's list of unnecessary Windows services which helps.

My point above is that Easycleaner is fine but I just found AWC to be better.

And NO Foxy I'm not going to restore and do a comparison

I just tried it after seing your post .
It has done a noticable difference . I have used CCleaner and any improvements after that have never been so noticable .
I have not checked yet if it does carry any "crap" with it and subject to that I would give the tumbs up!
Thanks

550443 2007-05-18 06:11:00 Counterspy flagged it as trying to ad some malware website to IE, but then I'm not sure I believe it. Especially as IE has been completely removed from my PC anyway.

Tried it, its OK, still doesn't get everything from the registry, but they never do. I'd say they have to err on the side of caution a bit.

Its protection features seem aimed at IE.

550444 2007-05-18 07:23:00 Hmm, colour me intrigued .

I'd just done a ccleaner issues check - the full monty where you scan, fix, scan again, reboot, scan again to catch all the dependences .

I d/l AWC & did a run through . Not sure I'm convinced on some of it, but as far as the registry scan went . . . . . . . . . . lo and behold startup is a small but noticable smidge faster .

There are many registry cleaners around, whether this one is better than them I dunno, I long ago quit worrying about the very best of 1/2 dozen apps & now just use ccleaner . But I have to say AWC did make an improvement .
