550217 2007-05-16 10:13:00 A minor but annoying menu/mouse problem...

when accessing menu from any folder, and you move the mouse down the menu selection to make your choice - it highlights each item as you pass over it, then you click your chosen item... when I do this, there is a short but annoying delay for each menu item to "activate", ready for clicking on, I can run the mouse pointer over them ~ but None highlight for that annoying few moments!
never used to be like this of course~ but where do I look to correct it? where would the "control" be for me to adjust, to fix it?
many thanks.
:badpc:

550219 2007-05-16 10:35:00 yeah~ I don't believe it's an actual Mouse-speed, Mouse movement problem, cos it moves just fine - it's moving over any menu item... like - when you click "file" or "View" etc etc ... and the resulting list of options show up ... whn u run the mouse over any of these they highlight ready to click whatever you want - in my case there's a delay before they highlight for me to click on. mouse movement is ok..... it's the menu 'active' delay that's annoying... neutrino (12272)

have you tried adjusting the double click speed to fast to reduce your response times (under mouse properties)

I could be due to the amount of RAM on your system. If you don't have enough there can be a delay between when you click and when something happens.

550221 2007-05-16 16:49:00 Sounds like a RAM or resource loaded-up problem to me. Might even be malware trying to flood or overwrite your system with junk. It acts like a plugged sewer line.

If your system is so busy doing stooopid things like running McAfee or Norton's, then you get those lags and spurts all the time...especially when they get a little long in the tooth (NZ= "old") and have a lot of nonsense running that they have to test and respond to all the time.

Check what's really running under your desktop with the Task Manager...you'll see what hogging all. Click on the MEM USAGE column and sort them in "highest-to-lowest" to really see.

Besides the fact that nature abhors a vacuum, another adage is: "No two objects can occupy the same space at the same time"...applies to 'puters too.

550222 2007-05-16 20:00:00 I'll do some checks as per replies, however....
Ram = 1gig, 3Ghz. processor. comin' up for 3 or is it 4 yrs old.
It does this whether connected to internet or not (dial-up), so don't think I'm being hit by anything.
main gizmos running in background - "Spyware Doctor v5", "Avast Antivirus", "ParetoLogic Anti-Spyware" .... but I'll take a look behind the scenes n see if there's anything else, and check Mem usage.
