550152 2007-05-16 00:22:00 hey guys. i recently acquired a used ibm thinkpad 600 - 256ram. pIII, 20gb hd, running windows xp.
Here's the problem -
It works fine - for about 24hrs on ac power then switches over to battery. Battery power is supposed to last one hour fully charged. it doesn't. access the web and you're done. then, you can't access ac power for about a day afterwards.
What's wrong? Do I need to replace the battery, ac, or is it something even more sinister?
Any help would be appreciated as this is my first experience with a laptop. thanks.:dogeye:

550153 2007-05-16 02:17:00 Well, it probably does need a new battery. They don't last forever.

There may be a BIOS setting for the AC thing, it should just continue on AC for as long as its plugged in.

550154 2007-05-16 22:12:00 Thanks. I'm going to try to replace them both, since the AC tends to switch to battery if the cord is jiggled or moved the wrong way. starrekin61 (10116)
550155 2007-05-17 00:42:00 You've obviously got a broken/dodgy wire in the AC lead somewhere. Would be simple and cheap to fix.

Hope the new pwr supply and battery doesn't cost more than the laptop is worth!
