| 549975 | 2007-05-15 05:27:00 | (However, most BIOS have some form of backup/reset these days) Some systems ie: ASUS mobos use Crashfree BIOS which will fix a screwed up BIOS update, u put the mobo cd in and it'll fix it. Or Gigabyte mobos, which have 2 BIOS chips. (Well some or most of them). However, I dont think this will apply to HP systems, kill the BIOS, its dead. You'll have to get it reprogrammed or replaced. I doubt that you can reset a BIOS if u screw it, the system wont boot even if u remove the BIOS jumper. |

| 549976 | 2007-05-15 07:12:00 | Upgrading the BIOS is something to be done with great care, and only if the upgrade is known to fix a a problem which is known to exist on the computer. A "BIOS checksum error" is almost certainly a checksum error on the saved BIOS configuration settings. The usual cause of that is a dead "CMOS battery": the little lithium cell. Replace that, reset the configuration in the BIOS setup ("use defaults" will probably be OK) and "Save and Exit". |
