| 550415 | 2007-05-16 22:32:00 | Whenever I go to the windows update site, svchost takes up 99% CPU, and keeps maxing out the CPU long after windowsupdate times out & gives me an error. I found a knowledge base article on it: support.microsoft.com & installed the patch, but still have the problem. |

| 550417 | 2007-05-17 02:50:00 | OK. this is great. i finally get to tell someone this. The microsoft fix DOES NOT WORK and microsoft have addmitted that. This is what you need to do. start\run. type in net stop bits start\run. type in net stop wuauserv go to go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=43264 might be an idea to google that it might not be exactly right. now go and delete c:\WINDOWS\software distrubution and delete c:\WINDOWS\windowsupdate.log or .txt one or the other. then go start\run net start bits start\run net start wuauserv it will work if u did it right - good luck. what u just did is stop the background intelligent transfer service and the automatic updates service, so you could delete those two folders, then starded the services again, windows will re-create those folders and voila. it will work. |
