550401 2007-05-16 20:23:00 Is there an easy way to find what motherboard is in a laptop? Opening a desktop case and finding the mb is no problem but I would think finding the exact type of mb in a laptop would be difficult. Detection programs such as SiSoftware Sandra can get the chipset and RAM but AFAIK not the mb. Strommer (42)
550402 2007-05-16 20:28:00 You use something like Everset Free or any one of the many hardware ID tools that have been mentioned on this forum The_End_Of_Reality (334)

Thanks. Could not find that when googling.

Although I wonder what "low-level information" will reveal...

The model description on the outside should be sufficient. It wouldn't be likely that a specific laptop model would be in production long enough to have alternative motherboards. It's not as if you can substitute generic replacements.

Googling the model number does not give me the type of motherboard. I looked at the first 50 results so guess I could search deeper...

550408 2007-05-16 22:15:00 the manufactures web site or most reveiw sites will tell you what chipset it runs. the motherboard model is irrelevant unless you need to replace it, then you simply get the part number from the manufacture. tweak'e (69)
550409 2007-05-17 03:31:00 Thanks Tweake. Mainly I am wondering if the laptop has a video card or if one can be added, and thought the mb specs would tell me. Strommer (42)
