550184 2007-05-16 08:17:00 I have a new PC on the way and I am going to have to transfer files etc. from old machine.
My intention is to put the hard disk from old machine close enough to attach sata and power from new box. then drag and drop or copy and paste.
Is there any reason this will not work?

550185 2007-05-16 08:23:00 yes it should be fine. i usually just pull the hardrive out and connect it to the new pc and copy paste whatever is required. tweak'e (69)
550186 2007-05-16 09:23:00 Depends what kind of files, if theyre programs that have already been installed, it may not be that easy.

They may not work.

If theyre the original install files, then it shouldnt be a prob.

It rather depends on which files you want to transfer.

If you want to transfer from XP SP2 to the same O/S you could use the files and settings transfer wizard. Your new PC may be running Vista. I would not know.

The files I would transfer would be any data you have created.
This includes (in my case):-
Documents.
Favorites.
Outlook.pst
All downloads.
Pictures.
Music.

I have CDs/DVDs for everything else.

Your mileage may vary.

Be careful.
