1414590 2016-01-17 06:34:00 Hi all

Thanks to a faulty wireless keyboard which was periodically freezing my computer,I did a w10 reset apparently unnesserrily after the keylboard was found to be the cause

Now I have no sound or Windows Live mail- sound on the internet appears common and Windows Live mail is incompatible with w10 (Mine came through via the upgrade from W7 Pro )
Now what program can I use instead of the Win live Mail?

And how do I get sound now

1414591 2016-01-17 07:03:00 Use the mail app that Win10 installed, thats if it works. Look in device manager. What does that say for the sound. Also look under sounds in control

Whats the default, if there's more than 1 source?

1414592 2016-01-17 07:16:00 Windows Live mail 2012 works fine with W10. Its version 2011 that causes problems. Depending on the actual problem you may be able to simply install 2012 and problem fixed.

The Sound, try running the standard sfc / scannow in a command prompt W admin.

Failing that maybe some of the dism commands. you can run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth to check if it detects any problems. If sfc says it finds problems but cant fix them then you can run the command to fix, you'll need a W10 DVD in the drive and check that D is in fact your Optical Drive. or if using a USB drive change the D to suit its drive letter

Cant write out the command as this forum turns it into a smile face. Command is in the red box:

1414593 2016-01-17 09:05:00 I dont think sound is enabled in the BIOS. There's no entry for audio at all in device manager. Only audio is from a cam. Told Effie to go into the BIOS and see if it's disabled

And if it is enable it and save settings, before he restarts. It looks like Eset may have been blocking something. Was getting a connectivity prob with windowsupdate. I had to go into Eset to fix it. Thought it may have been the ethernet cable. I thought Effie was using wireless, he isn't. There's no wireless entry anywhere

I think Effie was going to update the BIOS, the latest BIOS is on it now. Dont know when it was done, but it may have reset audio in the BIOS or something. Since, there is no audio at all now

1414595 2016-01-17 20:15:00 Hi,
sfc scan shows no errors s0 as I stillcannot get sic nZHerald to accept a password or be able to send a new one from them- the next thing is a BIOS check?

1414596 2016-01-17 23:31:00 Yup just check that the audio is enabled in the BIOS. If it is then there's a hardware fault or the sound on this is dead Speedy Gonzales (78)

1414599 2016-01-18 07:39:00 Hi all,
Thanks to you and many other F1 ers I now have a very fast W10 Pro, with no regrets about the upgrade - and although many have become very cynical of W10 I had to do it from an 8+yearold W7 Pro no longer supported by Microsoft and although I have paid over the retail price in the end, I do not regret it, as it goes very very well

Perhaps this will last me to the end of my days ;-)
