The final calculation should be divided by 52.142 weeks, not 52. This gives 42 hours/week.

True, call it a rounding error :)
I just used 52 weeks instead of 365/7= 52.143

Funny thing is, first try on the calculator I got 42 and then couldn't repeat it :) Getting forgetful, can remember the number plate of my first car from nearly 30 years ago but not a phone number from 30 seconds ago or where I put my keys :)

1408147 2015-09-10 20:30:00 You work in 8 day cycles, 4 days of 12 hour shifts and then 4 days off.

Who does that?
Sons GF does 4 days on, 2 days off, up to 6 days on, 4 days off, etc....totally random every time.

I used to do 4 days on, 3 days off.
But 3 days were 8am to 7:30pm, then 8:30pm to 5:30pm on the 4th day.

Paid for 40 hrs.

1408148 2015-09-10 20:49:00 1101 is right 36 hours on average per week over the year. Gobe1 (6290)

Thanks for that, but I was wrong :)
I calculated based on a 28 day month (it was easier)
Maybee if I calcuated on a 30day month I'd be a bit closer
Cheers

1408150 2015-09-10 23:58:00 But should work "weekly" hours be calculated - i.e. averaged - over a year/52 week? May be more suitable as a running calculated work weekly average. Or seasonal/3 month calculations. Since many jobs are only temp/casual, particularly if assigned work by NZ recruitment agencies. Some contracts may have bonus rates based on output - I believe they do for some large scale stock/storage jobs I was told) for the same hours worked, which may not apply over longer term contracts. kahawai chaser (3545)
1408151 2015-09-11 02:41:00 It doesn't make much difference, the 8 week average is the same as the yearly one, if you work less than 8 weeks it will either be a bit more or a bit less depending on what part of the cycle you are in.

Another way to work it out;

It rotates through in an 8 week pattern before repeating (Sat-wed, mon-thur, etc). You kinda need to draw it out to be obvious.
First 4 weeks (4 days) = 48 hrs x 4 = 192
Next 4 weeks (3 days) = 36 hours x 4 = 144
192 + 144 = 336 / 8 = 42 hours a week averaged over an 8 week period

So 36 is the minimum hours not the average and 48 is the maximum in any given week.

I do it.
Also a lot of service workers do it.
