1408500 2015-09-17 04:11:00 Hi

Just bought this Acer notebook - ES1-411-C6GN (www.thewarehouse.co.nz) for a good price and was wondering if I can convert the OS from the supplied windows 8.1 to windows 10 with the microsoft free upgrade offer currently running?

Thanks

Run the media creation tool from here and follow the prompts.

I hope you got that laptop upgraded to 4GB or more of RAM? ;)

1408502 2015-09-17 04:24:00 Thanks;
Reason I asked is that someone told me that new computers bought after the windows 10 OS came out would not be eligible for the free upgrade - glad to hear they were wrong!

Edit: No I didn't think to ask about extra ram - don't think the Warehouse does that anyway. Is 4G ram the recommended minimum for Win 10?

1408503 2015-09-17 04:31:00 No I guess they wouldn't.

I'm not sure what the recommended is, but anything Win7 and newer really needs 4GB of RAM to run acceptably these days. With a cheaper laptop like that, chances are you'll only have one slot, so you may need to remove the chip that's in there to upgrade. Even a 4GB chip of DDR3L is pretty cheap these days, probably can be found for around $50 - $60.

1408504 2015-09-17 05:41:00 I have a Atom powered Acer Tablet with 2GB of RAM I upgraded to windows 10, works perfectly fine.
I would avoid too much multitasking and it can occasionally be a bit slow to launch things, but in general it's pretty good. Only has a 32GB SSD as well.
Just get in the habit of closing things you are not using.

4GB is better, but I'd try it first and see how it runs. No point upgrading it if you are happy with it as is. Windows 8 & 10 actually seem to run better on small amounts of RAM than 7 did. Your cheap deal probably isn't so good if you go buying RAM.

1408505 2015-09-17 07:54:00 I have one desktop with a dual core duo and 4GB RAM, one matching desktop with 2GB RAM and apart from when I running solidworks you can't tell the difference in speed at all. I also have HP mini older model with only 2GB RAM (max it can take) runs ok too gary67 (56)
