1408153 2015-09-10 04:30:00 We have moved home to Taupo. When our contract to buy a house went unconditional, I contacted our former provider Vodafone to ask them to connect us via VDSL at our new address. Vodafone checked with Chorus that this was available at our address, and we signed up. All good. We received the confirmation emails etc from Vodafone, and thought we were good to go. Connection was to be on settlement day 19 August, a month away. I then bought a VDSL modem and router (the models recommended by Chill).

When we turned up on settlement day, there was a letter waiting for us from Vodafone, expressing regret that we had chosen to leave them and deactivate our connection request, and hoping we would come back in the future. The letter had been waiting at the house for a month, despite the fact that Vodafone had my email address and cellphone number, and despite the fact that the knew (if they thought about it) that we would not get the letter for a month. A fraught phone call to Vodafone revealed that straight after we signed up they had sent the order through to Chorus who sent somebody out who found out that there was no VDSL connection left in the street. I asked what proposals Vodafone had to resolve this issue, and Chummy said he would talk to his supervisor about it. After he returned he said his supervisor said the only person who could deal with the issue was the salesman who originally signed me up - company policy - so they would 'escalate' it to him. The word 'escalate' was used frequently in the rest of the conversation. I think I was meant to be deeply impressed.

Three weeks later, and still nothing heard from Vodafone...

After I went to the opposition in disgust (this is the second major snafu I have had with Vodafone), I found the opposition were offering fibre at a lower cost than VDSL and there were no restrictions on the number of connections in our street. Two weeks later I am connected.

I now have a new Draytek Vigor DV130 ADSL/VDSL modem, and a TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND 300Mbps Ultimate Wireless N Gigabit Router surplus to requirements. The packages have been opened to read the instructions, but no connections have been made. Total cost $223.69 inc GST. I am willing to sell the pair for half price, plus postage, to anyone wanting to set up VDSL, or even ADSL with a view to VDSL in the future. PM me if you are interested! Please...
