551301 2007-05-20 02:27:00 I've just had a problem occur recently with 2 home computers. Prior to installing some Windows updates the power supply unit would switch itself off; now, although the hard drives and other components turn off, the power supply units stay turned on - I can hear the fans still running. This behaviour occurred after installing Windows Updates during shutdown.

Both computers are running WinXP with SP2 and their PSUs definitely used to switch off at shutdown, but not anymore.

551304 2007-05-20 06:56:00 Check ACPI power settings in the bios. Also some PSU fans will run for a minute or 2 after shutdown by design to remove heat. But as you mention this never use to happen it sounds like an issue with windows power management. apsattv (7406)

This mouse does the same thing. I dont thnk its a setting in the BIOS. Or any settings in Windows. Its most probably the brand/make of the mouse.

As the previous MS mouse was fine (it went off) when I shut down.

551306 2007-05-21 02:34:00 as someone suggested check windows power management settings - you could be going into standby or hibernation instead of shutting down.

As for the mouse with the red light - even when your PC is "off " there is 5v available to some devices to enable the system to be started from them. Some BIOS's allow this to be switched on or off for USB ports in case you want to be able to start your system from a USB device such as mouse or Keyboard. Some mice possibly support a low power or standby mode which is triggered by windows shutdown.

The only way to truly power off your computer is to use the switch on the PSU or turn it off at the wall.
