551245 2007-05-19 22:48:00 I don't use Yahoo Chat, my wife does. I know stuff all about it. My wife uses it to keep in touch with her friends from her home country.

The problem she is having is that as soon as she turns on her webcam, she gets flooded by about 3 or 4 different people all wanting to view her webcam along with all the others as well.

Within 10 seconds there can be 40 or 50 requests from each of those 3 or 4 people who are flooding her, doesn't seem to matter what time of day or night.

Anyone else, you just click No or Ignore User, makes no difference to those who are flooding her.

As there is no chat box request, she can't Black that user. She has never communicated with those user names and they are not in her Friends List.

She has emailed Yahoo support with the usual automated reply that someone will contact her within 48 hours, that was 2 weeks ago.

She has solved the problem in the meantime by creating a new user name for use in yahoo chat.

A google search suggests maybe she is getting flooded with the requests from Bots. If so, what is there purpose in flooding her with requests and how does she stop them other than using a different log in.?

551246 2007-05-19 23:00:00 Cant do much bout it except block PM's. And add whoever, so they dont get blocked.

Most of those annoying floods, are most probably bots.

It doesnt matter what name u give yourself. Yahoo chat is covered in bots.

Get something better like MSN / Windows Messenger (Altho this isnt any better its old and buggy), or ICQ.

Err, now thats a good ?

Yahoo got too annoying for me. I removed it.

I cant remember, its in prefs somewhere.

Might be under chat I think.

There's an option saying block PM's or Only allow people who have been added to chat or something.

551250 2007-05-19 23:57:00 Speedy....that appears to have solved the problem.

For others wondering what we did.

In Yahoo Chat Messenger > Preferences > Webcam > Always Allow.....> Tick the Ignore tab > you can now create a white list of people that can always view your webcam or leave it empty and only those on your friends list will know that your webcam is active but still have to request permission to view.

So far with this limited testing, there has been no sign of the flooders or bot flooders with there requests to view.

551251 2007-05-20 00:09:00 Are these bots like their slurp spiders? SurferJoe46 (51)

Nope, the problem PinoyKiw wife had was with some bots that what we call "bad" bots that go around spamming forums/ people etc....

PinoyKiw > Check & see if your wife ID is listed in on the Yahoo! Members Directory - http://members.yahoo.com/ as that maybe the other reason why your wife ID is getting all these requests

If your wife ID is listed in on the Yahoo! Members Directory & it says that the web cam is on let me know & I will let you know how to remove that info from it, (I would say now but I am up early in the morning, & I am just about to head off to bed)

Hope this helps :)

Thanks Stu, did a check and she doesn't show up there. Since I fiddled with her webcam settings she has had no further problems.
