551156 2007-05-19 11:19:00 I have this setup on my Home PC running XP SP2 to access my work PC. It was working fine until about a week ago.

The vpn connects okay, but the RDC says it cannot connect to remote computer. I have tried connecting to work from another computer at home that is on the same home network and it works fine. I have checked the settings are the same.

I have even downloaded the latest RDC program form Microsoft.

We had some problems with the home PC about a week ago. Is it possible some part of the RDC software has become corrupted. If so what should I do.

Thanks

Steve

551157 2007-05-19 19:48:00 What version of XP do u have??

It sounds like u have XP Home, since Home doesnt support RDC (without the download file from MS, but Home will only act as the client not the host).

And you dont have to get anything for XP Pro,since it supports RDC.

Has the other PC that did connect got XP Pro on it?? If so, thats why, coz it supports RDC.

551158 2007-05-19 21:59:00 Thanks for reply.

It is XP Home SP2. But as I said it was running this function fine 1 week ago. RDC was an option in the Communications menu and I even downloaded latest version of RDC from Microsoft.

551159 2007-05-19 23:50:00 Any version of Windows can run a remote desktop session to a Windows XP Pro host (or server 2000/2003).
I have done it from Win98.

The machine that you are trying to connect to, are you using an IP address or the computer name?

551160 2007-05-20 00:03:00 I am connecting via IP address.

It worked fine last week and still works fine on another computer at home connected to work via the same home network.

551165 2007-05-20 03:29:00 Is the VPN connection setup with a static IP address or does it get given an IP from the VPN server? CYaBro (73)
