| 550695 | 2007-05-17 17:05:00 | HI, I HAVE TWO SHEETS (DIFFERENT BOOKS) WITH THE SAME INFORMATION. I USE ONE TO ENTER THE DATA, AND THE OTHER ONE (ALON WITH OTHER SHEETS) IS THE ONE I USE TO "SEE" THE DATA BUT NOT BEING ABLE TO ENTER OR AMEND ANY. PEOPLE (WHO DO NOT ENTER THE DATA) NEED TO BE ABLE TO SEE THAT DATA, BUT I DON'T WANT THEM MESSING AROUND WITH THE INFORMATION, SO I ENTER THE DATA SOMEWHERE ELSE AND THE THRU FORMULAS I RECALL ALL THAT INFORMATION INTO THIS OTHER SHEET WHERE YOU CAN ONLY CREATE LINKS... (AND ONLY IF YOU ARE A SPECIFIC USER) THE PROBLEM IS THAT I HAVE TO LINK SOME FILES TO THE PROTECTED SHEET FOR PEOPLE TO DOWNLOAD, BUT IF I ALTER THE ORDER OF THE ORIGINAL DATA (ALPHABETICALLY) IT CHANGES IN THE PROTECTED ONE BUT THE LINKS DON'T FOLLOW BECAUSE THEY ARE ATTACHED TO A SPECIFIC CELL AND NOT RELATED TO THE FORMULA IN THAT CELL... IS THERE A WAY WHERE I CAN RECALL (=Hoja2!C3) LINKS FROM THE ORIGINAL SHEET SO IF I CHANGE THE ORDER IT WILL BE REFLECTED IN THE PROTECTED ONE ALONG WITH ANY FILES ATTACHED TO THE CELLS??? THANKS... |

| 550697 | 2007-05-18 05:38:00 | OP, i would just select all from the data entry workbook, open i new worksbook and paste special all of it with the dynamic link. When you up-date the data, the other spreadsheet will give the option to update. Do worksheet protection or read only attrit's on the copied file. | SolMiester (139) | ||
| 550698 | 2007-05-18 15:38:00 | Hi there, I'm a bit new. Sorry for the capitals:D I tried what SolMiester said but it doesn't work. If I chooche paste special and I choose all (first choice) it will paste everything including links but it won't update later on since I pasted the cells and not the formulas. If I choose Paste Links it will paste the formulas so It will be updated each time I open it but it won't paste the links... I have my sheet with the formulas so I get tomorrow a client call "Brown" I can run the macro to have them alphabetically ordered because the protected one will reflect that change since it goes with the formula (ie: ='[File 07.xls]Sheet 07'!C80) but if previous to that I have attached some files to some clients in the protected workbook, once I have the original sheet alphabetically ordered the links in the protected workbook won't follow the "change" (the link will stick to what ever cell It was, since the cell in the protected is not moving) and won't be with their original clients... Is there a way where either I can have a link in the original one that can be pick up by the proteted, or I can instead of linking to a cell (just any cell) I can make a reference (in the link) to what ever is in that cell so if that cell goes up or down (thru the formula geting the data from the original book, so actualy the cell doesn't move at the protected book it does change at the original one which is reflected in the protected one thru formulas) the link will follow???
