550677 2007-05-17 09:23:00 I am trying to connect an XP Home computer directly to a printer with a network card. Can I just link th etwo with a network cable and install?
When I try this I get the message that no network cable is installed.
What do I have to do?

550678 2007-05-17 09:31:00 Just share the printer in printers.

Leave the name as is, then add the printer on the other PC, type in the name of the printer. ie: PC\printer name. Thats it.

Make sure the cable is a cross over cable.

True thats if you're not using a hub.

550681 2007-05-17 12:10:00 I think the issue is about a crossover cable. So is that correct that if a hub is inbetween then the cables are straight through? bpt2 (6653)

if you really want to do this use a crossover cable at the moment you are using a normal utp cable the tx and rx pairs are matched(tx to tx, rx to rx)with a crossover tx matches to rx and vise versa.
then youve got the problem of finding the ip the printer is using

Much easier (for this setup) to go with speedies suggestion

550684 2007-05-19 07:46:00 I still can't find the printer. It uses a JetDirect 600N Network card. bpt2 (6653)
550685 2007-05-19 07:53:00 Go to the HP site and look up the printer /card and see how u configure it. Speedy Gonzales (78)
550686 2007-05-19 08:19:00 press the power and paper feed button (with the printer turned on) thats the normal one for hps for a configuration page that should give ip information
then type ip that into your browser and if your lucky a web admin page for the printer will appear
