2007-05-17 20:54:00 | How can I go about resetting the password to get into MYOB? I have a friend who has asked me to help recover all his MYOB info. as the person who was doing the books on the MYOB computer has now been fired for theft from the company & has been sent to prison! She had conveniently 'forgotten' the password when asked & now the accountant is requesting stuff which cannot be accessed.

2007-05-17 22:13:00 | My recommendation would be to contact MYOB for advice. I don't know about the website link given above as I am not game enough to look but some of these password cracking websites are loaded with nasties so one needs to be careful about visiting them. | FoxyMX (5) | |

There ought to be a copy of the password kept by someone else. I suppose the ideal is to have a system administrator, who can override passwords set by "users", as in multiuser OSs. (Of course if the system administrator absconds ... :( ). I expect ("hope" ?) MYOB would have a way to recover the data. This must be a fairly common problem. There are casinos all over the world. It couldn't be hard for them to make provision for a master password which is never used except in emergencies, and held by management. (Perhaps there is one, with a default value which has been sitting there making the accounts insecure. ;)) |

2007-05-18 08:08:00 | MYOB offers data file repair and password recovery services to customers to help them get back up and running as quickly as possible. ...This myob (myob.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1143496820545&pagename=MYOB%2FPage%2FContentPageWithNav&site=en_AU) service might be safer than some of the other links found with "myob password recovery". | Graham L (2) | |
2007-05-18 21:26:00 | Thanks guys! I think the best option will be to contact MYOB to recover the password. The charges seem pretty reasonable. A lesson learned - never trust any staff with the only password & keep backups of all passwords!!! | fnphoto (2434) | |
